“So Long” Akismet

There is no easy way to combat spam. Every plugin I have tried so far, came with the imperfections. While I am grateful to Akismet for preventing hundreds of spam comments from slipping through, our friendship has become some what bittersweet as of late. As my blog became more noticeable and even leaders in affiliate marketing began to comment on my posts, Akismet would mark as spam wrong comments, and for the past few weeks before doing anything else I would have to “de-spam” the wrongly caught comments and pingbacks. So it is time to say goodbye to Akismet.

What About Spam?

Well, thank goodness we have Scott Jangro who modified “math plugin” to make it more friendly. So from now on, my readers will be asked a simple math question. This is not to test my reader’s intelligence (while I still believe it is good to exercise these cells of our brain)- I just need to know that you are human. I have used similar plugin in the past but there were two major issues with it. People simply did not notice the math question and if they posted long comments they would get upset and do not bother to retype their comment all over again. Scott just fixed these two issues. The math question appears in read just above the comment box and if you still miss the question or answer it wrong you will be able to simple copy your entire message from 404 page- Scott’s major contribution to this plugin.
