Akismet Is Catching Wrong People
January 8, 2007 – 11:44 pmAfter trying out all sorts of “math” and “question” plugins to protect my site from spam comments I settled with Akismet. Since I have activated the plugin (about) two month ago it has caught well over 500 spam comments on this site. The plugin is great but…. about two days ago I have notice that it marks some comments made by my friends and people who have commented on my posts in the past as spam. Unfortunately I was able to recover only those “wrongly identified” comments that were posted on this blog during the last 15 day. My apology to any one who may have posted on my blog and their comments have been caught by Akismet. From now on I will pay closer attention to what Akismet is doing on my site.
If this had happened to you in the past and you found any solution to this problem I will appreciate your advise.

I have been using Akismet, before using this plugin i was having to delete hundred(s) of spam comments with my poor hands.. :(
Now thanks to Akismet the trouble has been much easier, i am sure it can be much more difficult for you since you may be getting way more comments then ordinary blogs, i was getting like 40 spam comments daily, and rarely get real peoples comments... i only noticed once that it caught a real people comment as a spam, but that comment of his was also looking like a spam :D when i readed it.
I think Akismet is really good and helpful, but you can try to see if any other spam protectors can help you...
The latest version of Akismet is really good and improved.

There is no easy solution, just keep reporting them as good in Askiment and it should get fixed eventually.
Until then though, every comment on a wordpress blog running askimet, they will probably never see their comment again.
I was blacklisted by askimet a few months ago, it's better now but took a few lost comments and emailing bloggers where I commented to fix it.
Askimet is stupid ;-)
