Alexa Says My Website Still Has A Heartbeat

I am not quiet sure why, but I still find myself checking Alexa rankings for my websites. Even after a friend and fellow blogger had put to rest the myth about Alexa website widget by e-mailing Alexa and asking straight out if it improves website’s ranking.

I guess that the main reason is that both AdBright and now ReviewMe are prominently displaying those Alexa’s rankings for my site. Although I am still visiting Alexa to check on those rankings, I absolutely refuse to use either Alexa tool-bar or anything else that would inflate my rank which would be based in most part on my own visits. If you are an active blogger and write several posts a day, using Alexa tool-bar may rocket your Alexa rank in few days but will not tell me or anyone else about the true number of visitors to your site. So I am looking at Alexa more like a tool to give you some pretty or some times funny graphics.

So as I was looking at my site at Alexa today, one thing came to my mind- cardiogram. It looks like my site still has a heartbeat :) :

  • I only dispelled the widget myth, the alexa does count elewhere.

I've got firefox search status installed which I believe acts like an alexa bar (it shoes alexa rank when surfing), so that might be helping along with other things.
  • I had problems using Alexa toolbar, will never use it again in my life. I have not tried the firfox search yet. Where do I get it?

Its cool becuase it shows alexa rank (roughly), pagerank, nofollow links on a web page (awesome), a quick whois lookup for a website, and more.
  • Thanks Mark!
  • I don't think Alexa rankings matter that much!
  • They still provide good data
