Associate-O-Matic, Google “Sand Box” and an Elephant in My Living Room

Six or seven months ago, I have discovered Associate-O-Matic (a tool with which you can build an Amazon affiliate website), after purchasing a domain I had a website running in 20 minutes. After about two months of unsuccessful attempts of getting the site listed on search engines, I basically turned it into a sort of “play ground”, where I would test my almost every other site that I have before it went live. I did try to push the associate-o-matic site via PPC but figures did not add up and I was barely braking even.

In the meantime I was visiting all sorts of forums and websites to find out why my site could not get a single page into Google, I particularly was discouraged when the magic “six” months associate with the magic “sand box” has passed. To be honest I never believed in this sand box, until yesterday. It was yesterday that I decided to get rid of the domain for for the last time I went to see if by any chance Google has listed a page from that website. To my absolute surprise there were 4600 pages listed from the domain.

So here I am, sitting in my living room with a big “elephant” looking at me. For a moment I did not know what to do, but if anything here is a lesson to anyone who will use Associate-O-Matic in the future:

    1. Start Small. With Associate-O-Matic you may get carried away very easy and in no time you will have a website with thousands of pages. If you choose to display only one category of products you are likely to end up with more that 100 pages.

    2. Onsite SEO is as important as offside SEO. Associate-O-Matic gives you some freedom as to how you can configure meta tags and permalinks, which you can use to properly prepare you site for search engines. Along working on your site write articles, comment on blogs and forums, and do all that you do to have the “link love” going.
