Do You Autofollow On Twitter?

I do. When it comes to Twitter, I see absolutely nothing wrong with following thousands of users- or as Maki puts it “mass follow”.

One of the way to achieve that is through automatically follow those who follow you. (I delegate this automation to TweetLater). Yo might run the risk of following a bot or two – but TweetLater allows you to “vet” your new followers offering about 72 hours to block bots and spammers.

In the past, before finding a suitable Twitter client, it was very difficult to “filter” the noise in the main time line. Recently, with the help of Seesmic Desktop, I have graduated and moved my Twitter activity away from web. If you have more than 100 active followers I would recommend you to try one of the Twitter Clients.

Meanwhile I have experimented with autofollow feature of TweetLater, disabling the feature (while unfollowing everyone who did not follow me back) and re-enabling the autofollow feature again:

Twitter Stats

I probably should stress that my manual to auto-follow ratio is 5%/95%. Over the period of last month I followed manually about 5% of Twitter users while I “auto-followed” 95%.

I would love to know what (if any) tasks do you automate for your Twitter account and what tools are you using for doing so?

I might consider using this tool. I’ve purposely avoided MLM folks, simply because I didn’t want to read their money making tweets at the expense of all else. However, if I can use my expanding Twitter network to promote my sites, then I may need to rethink my position.

    Matt,

Is the web is the only way you are using Twitter following more than 100 or 200 users can become an unpleasant experience and as far as “keeping conversation going” an impossible task.

After installing Seesmic Desktop I rarely use FireFox for my Twitter activity. Plus Seesmic allows you to create lists of users.
