Do You Have Time For Paid Comments?
July 31, 2007 – 6:31 pmWhile there are certainly cases when paid comments can be 100% legitimate, I still stand by my somewhat harsh criticism of the website than brought the issue into the spotlights in recent weeks.
Today I was faced with a little bit of a dilemma. Seemingly innocent comments with clear attempt to (ab)use the fact that this blog has DoFollow plugin installed:

The comment was relevant to the post, but the name of the author looked…. well spammy. How can you tell if the comments where not made by some one who was paid to do so? I guess it could be a good lesson for someone who would consider paid comments service as a part of their business model.
Personally I have no time for such comments. However, every time I see such a comment, I can’t stop wondering, is this some one trying to get their feet went in online marketing and is following a bad advise?

There are plugins that can help you to moderate the spam. Here and there a spammy message slips through. For me if I feel that I would rather have a "nofollow" link for a particular comment- the comment does not belong on my blog.

I just visited your blog. The links in comments are still "nofollowed". I hope you are still following this post, so you can explain your above comments.

I may just end up installing a program that will only follow after a person leaves so many comments. Of course this is all considering I have a spam problem later on.

I personally will never consider going back to "nofollow", even though it looks like my blog is acting more and more spammers.

I really felt bad because I do have a few web hosting affiliate websites, and I know how difficult to get lings in that niche....

The site he links through to is a webhosting affiliate site, but it does seem at least a fair attempt, though not as good as yours.
