Even though I really wanted to purchase an iPhone, I'm glad I waited. I also didn't know about this whole battery issue. I should also add that for five consecutive months, ATT/Cingular has been overcharging me on my plan and I always have to call and rectify the issues. Its becoming a really pain in the a**.

I agree on ATT issue. If some one has given me iPhone for free I would not have accepted it because of ATT. The battery part may not be as big of an issue.
