The reason I had put a question mark in the title of this post is that I was surprised to find out that Jason Calacanis was confirmed as keynote speaker at Affiliate Summit West.
The surprise factor of course was due to Jason’s view on affiliate marketing. At least on one occasion Jason placed spammers, SEOs and affiliate marketing under one roof- all contribute to pollute the search engine results. Or at least indicating that majority of affiliate websites in search results are bad.
While his intention to provide “unpolluted” search results on Mahalo, may be a noble one, there were however internet marketers that view Mahalo as Jason’s personal propaganda machine, far from being unbiased and far from providing quality and free from ads search results, while some think that Mahalo itself is a spam machine.
So what will Jason have to say to bunch of affiliate marketers? Will it be something like this “spammers”+”SEOs”+”affiliate marketers”=”same thing”?
So what is next? Will Jason begin writing for ReveNews on regular basis?
I'm not an expert in affiliate marketing, and I'm under the impression that Jason isn't either. So… out of curiosity, why is he a key note speaker at an Affiliate Summit?

The link in the first paragraph is to the website where I found the news. But here is the official Affiliate Summit website:

It appears to be true.

Yes, Jason is most certainly slated as the keynote at Affiliate Summit 2008 West, and I'm anxious to hear his presentation.
Thinking back over our first eight Affiliate Summits, I'd say just one of the keynotes would be considered an expert in affiliate marketing: Declan Dunn.
The keynote that received the most acclaim to date was Ze Frank, who has little, if anything, to do with affiliate marketing.
Our keynotes are intended to set the tone for the conference, challenge the audience, inspire, bring in new ideas, etc.
The reality is that there are some scumbags in affiliate marketing. I don't like it, but I also don't think we should turn a blind eye to it.
Jason has been a trailblazer with success on the Internet dating back to the 90's, and I think we could all learn a lot from him.
Shawn,
I am sure he has great deal of experience. Besides his name may actually draw more attention to Affiliate Marketing industry, thus educating people about our business.
I guess I was ranting more than anything. I just gave a link to Jason's page on Affiliate Summit website.
