Ping My Blog Please- Trackbacks Are Followed

As I was reading Dan’s post “What’s In A Ping?” it reminded me of my intention to literally beg some bloggers to ping my blog. I have received plenty of link love from Chris over at Search Anyway, who on several occasions referenced my post but my blog had never gave him a trackback. This makes me thing that Search Anyway is not sending pingbacks to the posts and articles Chris writes about. Chris if you ever read this, enable the pinbacks/trackbacks on your blog. I know that there are few articles on your blog that point to my articles. In case of my blog you have nothing to loose, the trackbacks on my blog are always “followable”.

Which brings me to another point, I did not fully appreciate the potential of trackbacks, especially from the blogs that are not much too colorful. While there may be great benefit to have Technorati and other similar sites the benefits are not so great whenever links to your blog colored in pink. Personally I did not begin to appreciate the potential of “followable” trackback.

With that said I also begin to understand that commenting about other people blogs (that DoFollow) here on my own blog give both the author of the blog and me (the commenter) wonderful opportunity to link to related topics and subjects. When you write a comment about some one else’s post and link to it, hopefully your own post will be related to what author originally have written. Thus you link to a post and article that is related to your own. When the original post reflects the trackback to your blog, the link generally contains the title of your blog, which hopefully be the keywords by which you would like your post to be found in the future. Some times I even think to close my comments completely while telling my visitors to comment on their own blog and explaining that if the choose to like back to my article, they in turn will receive a followable link with keywords they used for the title of their post.

Otherwise you leave our name when you comment on other people’s blog, which is turned into the anchor text for the URL you use. This probably explains that I was so strongly moving up to the top of search results against Vlad The Impaler. While I am happy to see my site ranked well for my blog, I feel bad for the people who search for “Vlad”, find my blog and become disappointed after not finding anything here about the Impaler.

Closing my comments will not be very smart because they are here to seize the moment. Simple because many of us browse through hundreds of blogs daily and it would not be realistic to expect of every one of my visitors to comment on their blogs about what I have writtes. But due to the reasons I described above, I would rather if those who comment would do so on their own blog. With “followable” links in trackbacks its a win win situation.

Don’t take me wrong I am not completely against commenting, and I comment often on other people’s blogs, sometimes I end up commenting more than I write for my own blog. But then on some days I think back about the comments I made and realize that there were few comments I have left could have been elaborated into better posts on my site- creating decent content while acknowledging the authors of the posts I would comment on. How is it now a win win scenario? I create more content for my own blog while other people benefit from links to relevant posts and so do I with (hopefully) “followable” trackbacks. Plus if you pay attention, you maybe able to make few dollars reviewing even this very post.
