It cost you nothing to use FeedShare and unlike with other data feed solutions like GolenCan  or DataFeedFile, you will be able to keep %100 of traffic. If you are familiar with GoldenCan or DataFeedFile, these ompanies replace your affiliate link with their own for every forth visitor (click). While both GoldenCan and DataFeedFile offer great product and are rather easy to use, you may need to do some good math before pushing your website via pay per click advertising using their solutions.

FeedShare currently offers following datafeed solutions to the affiliates:

JavaScript Store Front
This is a simplest solution from DataShare and uses only one line of HTML code to display hundreds of products on your website. Unfortunately this does not give you SEO benefits since it is not indexed by search engines. This is a great solution if are planing to promote your site via pay per click advertisin.

PHP Store Front
PHP Store Front from DataShare offers more flexibility, it is also indexed by search engines. The PHP store requires a little more customizing if you would like for your site to have a unique feel and look. You will need to upload few PHP files to your server and adjust some settings such as entering your affiliate ID and /or choosing the categories of products to display. This solutions does require for your web hosting provider to support PHP in order for your website to function.

XML file
All products in XML file, ready to use in your custom application if you have programing skills.

CSV file
All the products in CVS file ready to use in your custom application.

I personally have used FeedShare to build some of mine affiliate websites and I am very satisfied with their product. The only drawback is that at the time of writing of this articles only 24 merchants offering their feeds to affiliates via FeedShare. I have made several attempts with my current merchants to point them to FeedShare. I am still keeping my fingers crossed. If you have good relationships with affiliate managers you can point them to FeedShare as well. For more information go to FeedShare.

How to Choose an Affiliate Program

If you are looking to join an affiliate program, you may benefit from the following steps that can help you to determine whether or not a particular affiliate program is suitable for you.

Things to consider before joining affiliate program.

  1. If you were the customer, would you buy products or services that you about to advertise as an affiliate? This may sound like a hypothetical question but in my opinion this is very important question and the answer to it determines your interest in the products/services. If you can step into the shoes of customer looking for particular product/service, you will be able to understand better to what extend the customer will go to determine the “true” value of the product and the best way to purchase it.

  2. Look what kind of links your advertiser offers you to help you to promote their products. Sometimes you will be able to create links that will link only to home page of advertisers website. It is always better to find advertisers that will offer so called “deep linking”, allowing you to create affiliate links to particular products and services instead just to a home page.

  3. Consider the conversion rate. Many companies have affiliate managers who oversee the affiliate programs. Thy will be happy to provide you with statistical data of how well their websites tend to convert visitors into customers. This information is of particular importance to you if you will be employing pay per click advertising to promote your website.

  4. Payment schedule. Some advertisers will not send payments unless minimum threshold is reached. Amazon, for example, will not issue payments unless an affiliate earned $25 in one quarter. Also some companies, like Amazon, will pay their affiliates only once a quarter.

The above steps are important but if you use them, let them be as starting points in examining particular affiliate program. After you have joined an affiliate program there is one more step I would recommend to take, if possible: make a test purchase. Choose the cheapest product or service and make a purchase. This will accomplish tow things atone time. If, after you purchased a product, you see in your reporting that commission appeared in your account, your affiliate links are working properly and your advertisers reporting is not compromised.

Affiliate marketing is challenging but yet it is very rewarding at the same time.

Fortunately there are many applications and even websites out there that can help you if you luck programing skills. I will try to write about these one by one in the future.
