Technorati Punishes Me For Too Many Favorites

For about one month now, or maybe more I am not able to add any favorites over at Technorati. A while back I have participated in famous “Technorati favorites exchange” craze, which actually placed my blog among most 100 most favorite blogs (not to be confused with top most linked to blogs).

In the process I have experimented with Technorati OPML files, which allowed me to ad hundreds of blogs very quickly. As a result my OPML file at the time included about 1000 blogs. Evidently Technorati considered my activity as “bad behavior” and will not allow me to ad any more favorites.

So after my most recent update I have decided not to include the “add me to your favorites” button on my blog. Of course this completely prevents me from reciprocal exchange with Technorati users when it comes to this feature. So I apologize to everyone who added me to their favorites but I did not return the favor.

The strange thing that every time I click the pink heart, Technorati says that I have no favorites and in order to have them I need to add a blog to my favorites wile not letting me do it at the same time. It would be much much better to give me let say following alert: “You Technorati Favorite demon has escaped, please contact our support theme to help you find it”. Just a suggestion.

Though Technorati and I are definitely on the outs, I still say hello in the name of being “friends” from time to time, and I've found that the Favorites area has just been broken lately. I'm not saying they're *not* penalizing you, because I wouldn't even be a little surprised if they were, just that you should give it a few days on the chance that they're just… broken. Again.

    Tinu,

I think you like me- we go in circles. I find myself checking out number of blogs for sometimes then move on to the next group just to come back later on…..

Thanks for stopping by! I agree that the favorite feature is really messed up. But it was on my mind so I decided to write about it.

Vlad, anything is possible, but they do have lots of bugs in the favorites system currently. If they have placed an upper limit on favorites, it wouldn't be a crazy idea, as long as the limit was reasonable… 2000?

People do subscribe to that many blogs in feed readers, so subscribing to that many in Technorati is a reasonable request

From what you are saying it is most likely to be a bug, I am no where near 2000 faorites

I haven't paid all that much attention to Technorati ever since they changed things with their “favs” category. I guess Technorati has become so easy to game that they felt that they needed to make the change.

    Matt,

I completely agree, technorati is very easy to game. The reporting is so inaccurate, it puzzles me to know that Sponsored Reviews, ReviewMe and others still factor in data from technorati to suggest the prices.
