Oliver,

I have already received the invitation. In fact I am already running ads on
one of my websites.

I think one of the obstacle that many affiliate may have (including myself)
is that majority of our websites are on "shared web hosting" accounts. You
can probably get away with setting up an ad server on shared hosting,
however I will not be surprised if many who currently have installed OpenX
on their servers will choose the "hosting" solution.

I will be writing a follow up about OpenX in the future. I need to refresh
my memory on setting up campaigns and navigating the system first. But
since I used OpenAds in the past I was able to set up my first website in
minutes.

Thanks for stopping by!

Hey Vlad

The Affiliate Summit was really interesting wasn't it. I'm glad we got the chance to meet each other. Your invitation for OpenX Hosted should come through this week if not already, Keep in touch, I'd like to hear how it works out for you.

One thing I noticed at the summit was that lots of affiliates don't use an ad server. I asked Shawn Collins thoughts on the issue:

"I agree – there is no way to effectively test ad locations, not to mention scheduling campaigns without an ad server. I think many people don’t realize it’s an option to have an ad server, though I can’t imagine how they wouldn’t know."

Once you're up and running I'd love to hear your thoughts: should all affiliates use an ad server...

cheers, Oliver
