If any one’s, your opinion is greatly appreciated and I don’t mind being convinced. I personally admire you and appreciate your opinion.

I see your point very CLEARLY. This plugin allows you to set the setting to count comments over much shorter period of time. Mine is set to count them over last year. If you reduce it to let say last 3 days it cuts down on the possibility of gaming. Not on my blog, but on the blogs that recieve 100 of comments a day. Sure there still be those who “don’t behave”, but you can restrict them from showing up bu filtering their url or e-mail address.

BTW, your thinking out loud is welcomed. I can’t repeat this enough times.

I know, but look how some misunderstandings and clarifications jack up the comment counts!!!

OK, I’ll stop now.

But see, now I can’t just participate in this back and forth banter without the nagging feeling that that I’m somehow abusing your comment counting system. I wouldn’t have given it a second thought before.

These things change how we behave, and not always for the better, IMO.

(again, not trying to convince you of anything, just thinking out “loud”)

I think the fact that there is one Scott Jangro with http://www.jangro.com and the other with http://www.bumpzee.com can be seen as gaming opportunity.

I wonder when (or if) Shoe releases his plugin, how will he address this.

Really, my widget shows 10 at the time of the posting of this article you had 8…. There may be even more comments that you made using http://www.bumpzee.com for your url. This widget takes into account the name of the poster, e-mail and url. So if people use different e-mail or url I guess this plugin sees them as different users. Sorry about that. If it is of any consolation your are not splitting the 3rd place with any one.

(Not to mention, it adds a “customer service” aspect, “my count is wrong!
