If you ever advertised through Google Adwords, you may know that they offer geographical targeting option for your campaign. In fact every time you create a new campaign you need to set the country where you ads should be appearing. If you would go further into that option you will find out that you can actually ad multiple countries, regions or even particular metropolitan areas. Another option allows you set geographical targeting depending on physical address or a point on the map.
Physical Address or point on the map.
This option allows you to set a point (which may be a physical address) on the map. This option will show your advertising withing a specific radius around the point or the address of your choice. The example to your left uses New York, NY as parting point for our Adwords campaign. When you specify radius, make sure your radius is over 20 miles otherwise your adds will not show as often as you would like it too.
Â
Custom Multi point Area.
This option allows you to customize your geographical area no matter what shape it may be. In the example to your left you can see we have chosen western US as our target area of advertising. This are is polygonal.

What are the benefits of these options?
Combined with time scheduling geographical targeting can hell you greatly if you would not want your advertising appear in certain area during certain time. Lets presume for a moment you have a consulting company operating out of New York. You offer your services across US, but would prefer if your potential clients would call during regular business hours so all calls can be answered live. No you can optimize a special campaign for your potential clients from California. I think this feature revolutionizes the way we advertise.

Currently geographical targeting is available at MSN and Google. Yahoo is to offer this option by the end of this year.
