For quiet some time now, webasters have an option to tell googlebot how frequently it should acess your website. In the past there were many topics on all sorts of SEO forums on how googlebot was “stealing” the precious monthly bandwidth. As the web hosting plans have change, sometime offering even unmetered monthly bandwidth this issue is no longer of concern to many webmasters. In fact many web masters can’t wait to see the googlebot to show up at their sites, especially those web masters or/and bloggers that constantly update their websites.
When it comes to the frequency with which Googlebot crawls your website this is what Google has to say:
Googlebot has sophisticated algorithms that determine how much to crawl each site. Our goal is to crawl as many pages from your site as we can on each visit without overwhelming your server’s bandwidth.

If you are dissatisfied with how often your site is visited by Googlebot or if you still have concern about your monthly bandwidth, you can tell Google how frequently you want your site to be visited by the crawler. By default the rate is set to “Normal”. But if you bandwith permits you can set your preferences to “Faster” crawl, which will be active for 90 days and then will go back to the previous setting. The same is true if you decide to limit the rate with which your want Google to crawl your website.
