Today for the first time ever any of my sites registered a number above famous 100,000 in Alexa. What does it mean? Not a whole lot. This rank will probably drop below 100,000 tomorrow. While many people wrote and blogged about how unreliable Alexa ranking is, I believe that it can be definitely viewed as “trend” of a particular website.
While considering Alexa ranking, we need to keep in mind the nature of site ranked. I think it is safe to presume that people who visit SEO websites and forums, they are more likely to have Alexa toolbar or other gadget that helps Alexa to rank sites. Therefore it is very possible that some sites will be ranked lower even if if they have exacnt amount of visitors and traffic.
I am still puzzled to hear some say though that supposedly AdBrite(aff) and Tex Link Ads(aff) determine the praices according to Alexa Rank. I don’t believe this to be the case. There are much better ways to measure (and show off) the traffic to your website, and find it hear to believe that these companies would rely on Alexa rank to set pricing. While I can not say much about Text Link Ads, I believe that AdBrite sets the pricing according to the click through rate of your particular ad zone.
I just hope that my site can stay about the 100,000 mark for a while.
Hi Vlad,
i found your blog through scott jangro's affiliate blog lists.
i think it's admirable to want to achieve a high alexa ranking.
i used to want to do that too (and still do).
although i think from a business perspective, you might want to focus more on building a list (you'll get massive leverage there) and income monetization.
personally i feel those two are stronger metrics than just traffic numbers.

Thank you for comment Adrew,
I am not putting much hope in Alexa. I realiaze that achieving high will not increase thu actual traffic to my sites, unless of course you can get on “movers adn shakers” list, but then how qualified my visitors would be?
I am guessing when you talk about “list” you mean the “e-mail list”?
Just saw your blog as well, great job!
hello vlad,
yes, i'm refering to email list.
there are many ways to get targeted and qualified visitors to your site. for example, article marketing can be very effective.
Thanks Andrew,
I have been using EzineArticles. I am not so sure how to employ e-mail marketing, especially for affiliate sites that sometimes have nothing else but products displayed via datafeeds.
Thanks again. I will definetely subsribe to your e-mail list for more tips and advise. 😉

your right about the alexa ranking being likely to fall the very next day!
and adbrite do set pricing according to CTR i'd think…
