One of the way to make money with your blog is by allowing advertisers to place adds in your feed. I am familiar with at least two reliable providers of such advertising Pheedo and FeedBurner. While any one can register and become a publisher with Pheendo, you need to be invited into FeedBurner publisher program, this of course did not change since the company was acquired by Google. I suspect Google may enhance this feature by indisputably best “keyword matching” technology used in AdSense ads. Both FeedBurnr and Pheedo distribute their ads via predetermined channels or industries.
Here how the FeedBurner and Pheedo ads look like:
I am not familiar with FeedBurner ads, but with Pheedo you can specify how often an ad will appear in your feed. You can tell Pheedo to place an ad in very post your write, every second, every third and so on.
The question is when should you start monetizing your feeds. In theory you can begin making money as soon as you have one subscriber to your blog, but it will take you years to see your first penny with only one subscriber. The answer to my question came unexpectedly and by an accident. Few weeks ago I have received an e-mail from FeedBurner to begin monetizing one of my blogs. Since the blog mentioned in the invitation had even less subscribers than My Affiliate Journey, I thought it would be an opportune time to ask the good folks at FeedBurner a few question about feed monetization. So in my e-mail I pointed out that the blog in question has under 100 subscribers and that I thought (mainly based on my experience with Pheedo) that this number of subscribers is not quiet sufficient.
Eric Olson answering my e-mail said that FeedBurner would be happy to get me started but the ultimate number to shoot for is 500 subscribers:
500 is a good number to shoot for so that you’ll be able to make some decent money but if you’d like to try it now early on we can get you going
So if you are looking to monetize on your blog’s feed build up the number of subscribers.
