Over the period of last few months I have been experimenting with Kontera advertisements on this blog. I have noticed that recently some of my posts contain 10 or more ads. The behavior of these ads remind me very much like SnapView which I took down from this site a while back.
At this time ads are bringing me an average $.40 per click, but the total income from this site is not significant enough. What do you think, should I keep them or should I get rid of them?
Hey Vlad-
Personally, I strongly dislike the Kontera (and Snap.com) ads. That's my own taste and should have no impact on your decision as to include them here.
Do what you are comfortable with. If you like them, keep them. If you think they will get in the way, take them down.
ReveNews went through a similar experiment with these intellitext ads and I think they are mostly gone now. I imagine if you poll readers, they are going to say they are annoying as well.
That's why I encourage people to use feed readers and to subscribe to great content such as what you present here!
I am with you Sam. I give them try to see what is their revenue potential. I whish they had an option where you can controll as to how many ads appearing per page, because sometimes they really go overboard.
Thanks for asking 😉
I don't mind them.
You welcome Mark. Thanks for the feedback. I probably would not have asked if they were more profitable. I guess to make any god money on these or AdSense like ads your site need 1000 visitors per day. Oh well, maybe I shoudl save them for the future.
for what it's worth, I'm with Sam on this one. I dislike any hover-over surprises that obstruct the page.
They make me realize that I am very active with my mouse pointer while reading and these things get in the way.

like them better then all the ads you have on the right hand column. For me this is a lot less noisy, consumes less page real-estate, and overall has less eye pollution.
Thank you both Bobo and Scott. I agree with you bobo about the sidebar as well. There goes revamting!

Vlad, i'm fine with the idea of the ads. I also think it depends on which side of the coin one is looking at it from.
Ads normally don't perform as well in this niche especially since your visitors are mainly the dudes and dudettes from Affiliate Marketing. And thus, expect fewer click throughs. It seems Ads just don't work well on marketers.
The same cannot be said if the ads are targeted in a different market to a different crowd. They are probably as less ad savvy and ad blind and that's the reason why John Chow making money on his contextual ads.
If the majority reading his blog are affiliate marketers, I doubt he will be making as much.

I've recently set up Kontera on my blog and the earnings weren't that impressive. I'll probably leave it on for a while more so I can monitor the results and reach a decision.
I totally agree that they can go overboard with the number of ads. Way too many in a single post for me, sometimes.
Maki,
When I started serving them some time they would serve one ad but other times more than 10. I was not impressed earnings either.
Thanks for stopping by!
