I have been going back and forth in my engagement with PlugIM– a Digg-like social network. Few moths ago I have even tried to automatically submit stories to PlugIM by adding RSS feed to my account. I am not sure why I have discontinued using or even being engaged in PlugIM community. I think one of the factor was the results on Google Blog Search- Plugim always beat me there for my own posts, while my own blog was nowhere near the first page of the results. I guess my decision was based more on my ego rather than on practical aspects of using PlugIM.
Today I have taken another and somewhat deeper look into PlugIM and the results can be seen on every post of my blog as I have implemented PulgIM WordPress Plugin.
Here are some benefits of using PlugIM:
- Links to your blog from PlugIM do not have “nofollow”.
- Your blog gets more exposure to members of PlugIM community.
- May bring more traffic – this one is only my guess, I have not experienced much traffic coming my way from PlugIM yet.
- If you are AdSense user you may be able to ear more money. PlugIM allows you to enter your AdSense PID which will be used 50% for entries on PlugIM
Did I miss any?
I've experimented a bit with PlugIM but not enough to take many conclusions. PlugIM is very tech savvy and if articles are not all about technology they can get very much ignored there. Even so the traffic coming from there is not much, it's worth to submit for the link…

This is awesome that you're back on Plug IM because for some reason that's where I used to follow you.
As far as why you were discontinued, when this happened to me this month it was because my feed was broken – Just ask Ryan about it directly, he can probably help you fix it.
I get traffic from PlugIM, but often it's hidden traffic, where my bumpzee traffic is apparent in my stats.
Quite a bit of the time, traffic from PlugIM may show up as feed traffic, which will give you no referring link in your stats. At most you'll know that someone found you through a feed, which is treated in stats like a bookmark. Two things that made a difference for me were actively participating in the community and checking up now and then that my feed validates. I'm doing a series about them this weekend.
The widget also helps.
As far as PlugIM outraning your content, try thinking of it another way — that page about your content leads back to your content, so you'll still get the visibility. With content increasingly becoming decentralized from particular sites, it's no so much about getting that visitor on your site right away as it is getting them into your content stream where ever it is across the web – ultimately all roads lead back to you. The best test would be to try it for a week and see if you get an increase that you can't otherwise account for.

@Tinu
“ultimately all roads lead back to you”
Can't be put any better. I think that eventually when SE recognize that your blog is the original source it gives you credit for that. at least Google does. I have noticed this with BumpZee- because it gets visited by Google so often my posts there get indexed before they do on my blog. But when the Google indexes them, the ranking shifts and my blog moves up for my articles.

Yeah, it's very “cycle of life”. I remember the days when I used to rack my brains and worry about that stuff, and ultimately if I make sure the content is published on my site first, it all comes out in the wash. 🙂

Hi,
I also use PlugIM but I have to admit I do not get much traffic from them either…
@CFERNANDES
Well I really did not think PlugIM can deliver much when it come to traffic. I also noticed there is really a lot of moderation that takes place there….. I hope Ryan finds time for sleep…lol Every single entry is queued for moderation. I think they may have better success if they let just “plugs” to be real moderation system. But then there is no mechanism to voice your opinion if you dislike a particular entry. Why copy “Digg” and leave out “burry” option?
Anyway, I will give it another few days. But I am not as impressed as I am (was) and will be with BumpZee

I have never heard of PlugIM. Are there a lot of people using it?
Hey Vlad, glad to have you back. Actually there isn't any moderation on PlugIM. Every post goes live in the queue the second it's posted in the newly submitted section: http://www.plugim.com/view/all/queued Obviously if something is blatantly spam, it'll get deleted but we do also have a burry option as well. Right next to every story you'll notice a drop down that says “problem?” Just select the problem with the story and instead of plugging it, you've dumped it.

Vlad – Hang tough, buddy. What I was going to write has already been posted by Ryan Knowles, and when you have heard two or more people say the same thing, well, you should know you're not being b.s.'ed. Take care. P.S. I think PlugIM is the cat's pajamas!

Ryan,
Thanks for straighten me out on “bury” option. I guess I need to spend more time around PlugIM. Just the fact that you do not use “nofollow” on the links get my support!
Morgan,
Thanks for stopping by. I am sure after I ind my way around, I will like PlugIM more.ukraine
