I have been going back and forth in my engagement with PlugIM– a Digg-like social network. Few moths ago I have even tried to automatically submit stories to PlugIM by adding RSS feed to my account. I am not sure why I have discontinued using or even being engaged in PlugIM community. I think one of the factor was the results on Google Blog Search- Plugim always beat me there for my own posts, while my own blog was nowhere near the first page of the results. I guess my decision was based more on my ego rather than on practical aspects of using PlugIM.
Today I have taken another and somewhat deeper look into PlugIM and the results can be seen on every post of my blog as I have implemented PulgIM WordPress Plugin.
Here are some benefits of using PlugIM:
- Links to your blog from PlugIM do not have “nofollow”.
- Your blog gets more exposure to members of PlugIM community.
- May bring more traffic – this one is only my guess, I have not experienced much traffic coming my way from PlugIM yet.
- If you are AdSense user you may be able to ear more money. PlugIM allows you to enter your AdSense PID which will be used 50% for entries on PlugIM
Did I miss any?
I used it once did have much impact and when I was reshuffling my looks on my blog I suddenly just decided to take it out :/

I've just signed up for PlugIM. Actually I've been subcribed to their feed for a month – I just didn't signup or submit any of my stuff (not sure why). Your post was the clincher for me to actually sign up.
One thing I noticed with the feed: there's a fair bit of spam in there (maybe 1 in 10). I guess these things have been deleted or buried on the site itself, but my feed reader picks them up before this happens.
Given that PlugIM is nonofollow and quite prominent, I'm a little worried about this getting worse.

Stephen,
I do not see how the “nonofollow” will affect your website. The PlugIM points no-nofollow links to your website too.
I have to be honest that neither Sphinn not PlugIM never grew on me. I am contemplating going only with BumpZee. I have also noticed few issues with PlugIM plugin affecting my server's resources. I think I will try to go with least possible plugins in the future.

Vlad, sorry I wasn't talking about it affecting my website – I just meant that PlugIM will become a bigger target for spam. When I read the PlugIM feed, there are spam entries in the feed. With the Bumpzee feed there is no spam.
Maybe the PlugIM model with everything going live the instant it is posted is the problem. Sure spam posts can be deleted later, or buried, so they are no longer on the site, but feed readers have already grabbed the spam. I don't know the solution, I'm just pointing out the problem.

Stephen,
I am not that familiar with PlugIM and how do they work around the spam.
I know that majority of Bloggers at BumpZee are marketing oriented and hate spam with passion- maybe that where the main difference is.
Once your blog is approved on BumpZee, your feed is grabbed automatically. But I think the spammy websites have low chances of being approved by BumpZee.
From time to time you will get a spam message on BumpZee via private/public messages, but Scott Jangro is on top of things there. Often by the time you check the spam message, it has bee la ready detected as such and deleted.
I guess every community/website that has that is “no-nofollow” needs to put more effort in fighting spam.

Did anyone notice that Plugim has some problems lately. For the last 2 weeks you couldn't submit anything. When you try to submit a story they have some SQL error. Looks like nobody is working on it so they might be going down soon.
Pawel,
I have not used PlugIm in ages. I actually have forgotten I wrote about them.
