Some StumbleUpon users complain about it. I see it as a good thing. The fact that I no longer can add additional friends to my account offers an opportunity to reevaluate my current StumbleUpon friendships. Sorry to disappoint, but using the words of Donald Trump, some of my current Stumble Upon friends will be “fired”.
What can you do not to be fired from my friend list? Simply follow three simple rules:
- Make sure to engage with me. If you are on my list I expect you to share your stumbles with me, but…..
-
Stop sending me porn or anything that is bordering with it. I find it very strange if our common interested include SEO and marketing yet you always send me pictures and videos of celebrity boobs. I am not interested.
- Make sure the pages you send me are well optimized. While I have cable internet connection, some times I receive stumbles that have terrible load time. It is frustrating. I can only imagine how frustrating it is to people who connect to the internet via dial-up modem.
Happy Stumbling!
I see you are down to 192 now. Glad to see I made the first cut 🙂
Mark,
I am guessing the number you see are the mutual friends you and I have. I actually have 213 fans and 200 of them are added as my friends.
Yikes! This means I'm still in jeopardy.
As for the count, I now see 196 of them both when I am logged in and as anonymous. It does list 213 fans total. I suspect it is some kind of quirk due to the profile ratings of a few of them. Maybe a few of the boob aficionados you mentioned have X ratings 😉
Please keep me and I promise I'll keep you! Seriously, I go through my list from time to time, deleting people who are no longer active with SU.

Mark,
You are safe. 😉
So are you Matt.
I don't recall receiving any boobs from any of you … lol
Mark,
Now I see what you mean. Yes I have 213 fans and it looks like 196 friends. But if I go to add another friend it tells me I have reached the 200 friends… go figure.
I go through every now and then – there are still 2 people who are not active and reciprocal that Stay on the list anyway, Mark from 45n5 and AgentSully.
I actually choose people based upon what they submit more than anything else, but that 200 limit is a pain. I am up to almost 800 fans on Stumbleupon and I would guess I know 600 of them by their avatar and other online activity.
I have had people quite upset when I don't friend them back.

@Vlad — Hmmm… maybe StumbleUpon has 4 stealth friends they are sneaking in there to keep an eye on you 😉
Actually, I've seen this before and I wonder if there are times when their database gets out of whack when removing friends, where a friend gets removed but sometimes you don't get the credit.
@Andy – What they really need is an interface solution on this if they won't raise the limits. There should be a little alert that pops up and lets the new fan know that you are maxed out and that friending them is going to involve some juggling… Maybe let us customize the message: “Hi! I'm maxed out right now….”

So maybe they can award users in some way. Let say if you reach a certain level they can allow you to ad additional 200 friends and so forth???

I wonder if now that they are starting to add captchas that might open some things up. I suspect though that the friends limit might be, at least in part, an infrastructure problem that is harder to solve. It may be that some key part of their algorithm takes more processing time to work out the more friends one has. They may have determined that capping it at 200 is a good spot to keep everything under control.
