I have just updated to the latest version of WordPress. I generally am a little terrified whenever the time comes for updates and takes me some times to finally go ahead with the updates. This time around my fears were justified and I have noticed that across my posts regular quotation marks were replaced with ““” and “–. Of course there is a way to avoid this from happening, but since I am writing most of my articles in word processing application, this was unavoidable and most likely the effect was there long before I discovered it myself, it all depended on the browser one was using to view this blog.
Needless to say I was not pleased with the “side effect” of this most recent update. To correct the error(s) manually would take me a long long time, and I have only about 400 posts on my blog. I just can imagine the horror a blogger may feel if this happens to his 1000+ posts.
Fortunately there is no need for panic, thanks to Search and Replace plugin. With this plugin you can fix (replace) text in titles, content, excerpts and comments in seconds. Great plugin to have!
I just upgraded and noticed the same funny characters. I thought I just didn't notice them before so I'm glad to know that I wasn't going crazy! Now to give the search and replace plugin a try…
