Back in 1991, I saw a computer for the first time in my life. My cousin, during Christmas vacations, has brought home PowerBook 140, which I believe was the second laptop computer ever made. Needless to say I have fallen in love with Apple Computer but over the years I would betray my love and lately am desperate to be re-united.
My First Computer
In 1995, while studying in Rome, I had a chance to visit United States for the first time, and throguh a generosity of a friend was able to buy my very first computer. It was a Power Macintosh 6200. Bringing it back to Europe was an adventure in itself. I remember boarding the plane from JFK airport with these two big boxes (one with computer the other with monitor), and believe it or not I was lucky and stubborn enough to have them with me as carry on baggage. The only problem I faced was when I came back to Rome and after setting up my “baby” I noticed a small amount of smoke coming out of the monitor. Duh! I did not even stop to think that a 220V current may cause something like that. Fortunately computer was ok and after few days I exchanged the monitor at the local Apple store in Rome to confirm to the European current. It was a true joy to have my own computer.
My Second Mac
Towards the end of my studies in Rome, I needed a computer that I can take it with me to school and libraries. I was working on my thesis and thought it would be very handy to have such a companion. I have settled on PowerBook 1400c/cs. I still have it and will probably pass it onto my children. I often turn it on just to satisfy my need for Apple love.
My Third and Last Mac
In 1999, one year after moving permanently to the United States, the need of laptop ceased to exists and I have purchased iMac- my last Apple computer. Since then, in the places I worked Apple was not welcomed. I regret every second spend in front anything that has to do with Windows, but I guess I have learned to live with it. I am planing to buy a Mac on my own eventually but for now I want to see if Bill Gates would buy it for me.
Why do I want Bill Gates to buy me a Mac?
I guess I have no one else to blame for my betrayal. But should I blame Bill? I am not sure. But this is how I see it. To me Apple Computer equals logic, while Windows equals illogic. But that is not all, logic to me also equals good, while illogic equals evil- you do the math.
But let set aside sarcasm, which was not really a sarcasm on my part. Do you really think Bill will ever read this? Probably not. Even if he reads it, do you think he will buy me a Mac? Wouldn’t that be something!
Oh well, tomorrow is my birthday and a child in me dreams of impossible….. unless you can buy me a Mac? No? Well, a Happy Birthday will do it.
Nope he did not 🙁
