Today the number of comments on my blog became bigger than number of posts. I will not give away the numbers, since these numbers are nothing to brag about. Nevertheless as of today there are more comments on my blog than posts. To celebrate this occasion and say a special thank you to those who commented on my blog I have installed Top Commentators Plugin. While I do not use “nofollow” in my comments, I have decided to reward those who commented the most on my blog by placing their names/urls on my sidebar because my front page has the highest PR.
Now you see the top ten of them in the sidebar and this post I entirely dedicate to all of them:
- 45n5 (21 commnets)- actually this number is not quite correct since Mark from 45n45 has made other comments using other name. Nevertheless he is on the top of the list. Not only he added much to things I posted on my blog, I also received some nice “link-love” from his blog as well. So who is Mark? He is a superb blogger, excellent programmer and a good sport! Take a look at 19pages– a website building script he made. You can create a 19 pages website with this widget under 30 minutes.
- Andy Beard comes in the second place with 14 comments as well as some link-love from his blog. I highly recommend all my readers to subscribe to Andy’s blog. It was because of him that my eyes were opened to the nature of “nofollow” demon. Andy has compiled a nice list of Nofollow-Follow related plugins. On his blog you will find tons of information on the topics related to blogging and niche marketing.
- Scott Jangro is in the third place with 8 comments and some link love from his blog. Scott is the owner and mastermind behind BumpZee! An Affiliate Marketing Community. Joining BumpZee! helped me to make some good connections, learn from the best affiliates and even get some extra traffic to my website. As many BumpZees I eagerly anticipate every single update on the website. Everything Scott has came up with was way above any of my expectations. If you are an affiliate BumpZee! is the best community to be member of!
- Sam Harrelson commented 8 times sending some link love from his blog to mine as well. So actually he should be splitting the 3rd place with Scott (sorry Scott). Sam writes and writes and writes about affiliate marketing. Just go over to his blog and you will see that this man is mad about affiliate marketing. Don’t forget to subscribe to his feed as well.
- Carsten Cumbrowski commented 7 times on my blog. On his blog you will find tons of useful information about affiliate marketing.
- Mark from Bloglyne.com commented 6 times. Makes sure to subscribe to his blog as well.
- Andrew Wee commented 4 times
- Shawn Collins commented 4 times
- J.R. Commented 3 times
- Lee commented 3 times
I also would like to thank every body else who commented on my site, your contribution is very appreciated and I thank you for taking your time and write something. While your names are not in the top 10 you still get some credit for your effort, as I said before my comments do not have “nofollow” rule. Thanks again to all of you and happy blogging!
Wow! i'm the top of the list!!!
Thanks much vlad, it's fun commenting here. yeah I need to figure out the “45n5” and “mark from 45n5.com” thing.
you linked to 19pages! off to linkback from the original thread.
thanks again.
My pleasure Mark. Sometimes I wonder who contributes to this blog more me or those who comment lol.

First, thanks for the kind words, Vlad.
I still haven't decided how I feel about this “top commenters” thing that's going around. I'm a huge fan of people commenting on blogs and wish they'd do it more, and I think it's great that you're willing to link back. So it's all good, right? But things like this beg for comments and result in gaming.
And now that I think about it, it may have the reverse effect on me. I also tend to drop a quick, “nice post” comment here and there and this will make me feel self-conscious about it. Look at that jangro guy, boosting his comment count! 🙂
I'm not condemning it by any means. Like I said, undecided.
Scott I see your point. My site is not among the “big players” so I don't think anyone is going to see this as an opportunity for gaming. Besides I liked what Shoe said about something similar: “I write my blog for people, not for the search engines”
As for me, I am glad people come and comment. I am not earning much from this blog anyway, but boy do I learn. BumpZee is a big part of my learning process.

HEY! My comment count didn't increase after my last comment!
(Not to mention, it adds a “customer service” aspect, “my count is wrong! 😉
Really, my widget shows 10 at the time of the posting of this article you had 8…. There may be even more comments that you made using http://www.bumpzee.com for your url. This widget takes into account the name of the poster, e-mail and url. So if people use different e-mail or url I guess this plugin sees them as different users. Sorry about that. If it is of any consolation your are not splitting the 3rd place with any one. 😉
don't worry about it Vlad, I was just kidding.
I know. I was trying to be funny as well. 🙂
I think the fact that there is one Scott Jangro with http://www.jangro.com and the other with http://www.bumpzee.com can be seen as gaming opportunity.
I wonder when (or if) Shoe releases his plugin, how will he address this.

I know, but look how some misunderstandings and clarifications jack up the comment counts!!! 🙂
OK, I'll stop now.
But see, now I can't just participate in this back and forth banter without the nagging feeling that that I'm somehow abusing your comment counting system. I wouldn't have given it a second thought before.
These things change how we behave, and not always for the better, IMO.
(again, not trying to convince you of anything, just thinking out “loud”)

Scott,
If any one's, your opinion is greatly appreciated and I don't mind being convinced. I personally admire you and appreciate your opinion.
I see your point very CLEARLY. This plugin allows you to set the setting to count comments over much shorter period of time. Mine is set to count them over last year. If you reduce it to let say last 3 days it cuts down on the possibility of gaming. Not on my blog, but on the blogs that recieve 100 of comments a day. Sure there still be those who “don't behave”, but you can restrict them from showing up bu filtering their url or e-mail address.
BTW, your thinking out loud is welcomed. I can't repeat this enough times.
