photo credit: permanently scatterbrainedSince moving to a new domain, I have become more and more frustrated with spam monkeys. So much so that I almost followed Scot’s lead in switching to “nofollow” again.
My frustration though was misplaced. There is no question that blogs from No-Nofollow Community are on many “must spam” list. But I think there is still a way to dofollow the comments while keeping the monkeys away.
Since moving to this domain, i have not bothered to install Spam Karma plugin until now. I just decided to go along with Akismet that comes by default with a new WordPress installation. I should have learned from the past and how this collective intelligence plugin had failed me in the past.
So today I have decided to say goodbye to Akismet once again, hopefully forever. Spam Karma is so much better solution for keeping the wrong people out and the right ones in. If you have installed Spam Karma on your blog but are not sure what is the best configuration for the plugin, take a look at Andy’s settings for SK2.
Vlad you can actually use them together often a much better combination – I don't because I haven't seen the need, though I moderate every comment.
Get the extra plugin to use them both together.
I have been using
http://blog.ftwr.co.uk/wordpress/sk2-moderate-p…
You have to switch the captcha off
With this enabled, all but you most loyal commenters end up in the SK moderation queue.
I don't bother editing links – if it is spam, I generally don't allow the comment. On Akismet due to collective intelligence you are basically saying the spam is ok if you approve it with the link removed.
I must admit I end up using the this is spam button a lot, but some of my most loyal readers came due to the links – I am sure they would stay if I changed.
I am awaiting the monetization solution that is coming.
Thanks Andy. I will switch the capcha off.
The biggest problem with Akismet is that it catches the wrong people. I am not sure if you attempted to comment here on this new domain, if you did now you know what might have happened.
If you use Akismet with SK2 then all it does is add a small penalty to the comment, just like the other filters.
I mentioned the akismet plugin for SK2 in my config post
Nah, I would rather stay away from collective intelligence for now.
Completely forgot to give the link to Spam Karma.
