What To Do With Unwanted Traffic

April 19, 2007 – 12:12 am

What a strange title right? Well sometimes it happens. When I wrote about Google directions from New York to London, I never could have guessed what kind of traffic my website will receive because of that post. Just take closer look to my 10 top keywords (according to Hittail):

Top 10 Hittail Keywords

So yesterday I have decided to place two kind of ads there. One from AuctionAds another from Amazon both displaying GPS Navigation products. And today I noticed first sale on Aamzon. Granted commission was only $12, but these are the easiest $12 I have ever earned.

Few days ago I have written a post about importance of early search results listings. At the time, while noticing an increasing amount of traffic from “ny to london directions”, I had no idea the traffic would only continue to increase. Yesterday my website had 250 visitors and about 70% of them came to my website looking for “directions from NY to London”.

When I firstly wrote that post Scott Jangro wrote following commenting on that post:

I think this is what you’d call an easter egg.

Funny stuff.

What an easter egg it was! Just for the sake of experimenting I will post how much money this easter egg will earn. It very likely will not turn into a golden one, but hey it brought me the easiest ever $12! I am not sure how long this traffic will continue to flow, but I will update you from time to time about my “easter egg’s earnings”. Any idea how else can I monetize this traffic? I don’t believe there is any potential to monetize it and this sale was most likely an exception, but who knows.

Easter Egg Earnings as of April 19: $12
