Looking at URL of this my website (http://www.volodymyrzablotskyy.com), one may conclude that I have chosen unwisely this URL for my website. As you may have guessed it this URL consist from my first and last name. While I admit it was not the best choice for the web address of my site, I can definitely argue that it was not the worst one either.
There are plenty of topics around the Internet community regarding this topic, and while most web masters agree that URL of your website should either contain a keyword for which your site will be optimized, or at least to be catchy and easy to remember. While this is true, I believe that what is contained in the title meta tags of your website’s header is far more important than the URL itself.
Just take for example my website. If you are not from Ukraine or at least from eastern Europe, you will never remember the spelling of my name. But you can much easier to remember the title of my wbiste which is “My Affiliate Journey”.
With the growth of the Internet, even today is very difficult to find the right URL. This is the reason for .nets, .orgs, .biz and variety of other dots. Why is that? Because most of good verbs, nouns and combination thereof are no longer available in combination with .com.
While it is good to pay attention of what other and more experience web masters and SEO gurus are saying in regards to the choice of URL, do not panic if you can not find that perfect URL for your site. Settle with the one that is “just ok”, but consider very carefully when it comes to the title of your website. If you choose the title that is easy to remember it will be as good as choosing that perfect URL. Just take as an example my website. Try to search “My Affiliate Journey” on the Big Three (Google, Yahoo and MSN), if my site will not be in the first position, it is within first few results. You cannot expect to see the same results for your website within days, but with a little work it is not unlikely to see your site on the first page of search results for the words in your title tags within one month.
