The News Room- One More Look

After I have written about The News Room, Chris over at Shearch Anyway Blog, offers some insights on why The News Room may not be suitable for your blog.

Here are just few quick points.

Video Update Themselves- Problems and Benefits.
When you copy an paste what is called a “video-feed” from The News Room, every time there is a new video for that particular feed it will automatically update itself. So there is very little benefit of using the code in a single post. Especially if you try to underline one particular video. In a few hours or even minutes the video that caught your attention will be replaced. Here is an example of a post I have titled iToyota. As you can there is no video in the video player about iToyota. However there is a way to use a single video in your blog posts, where instead of displaying a “video feed” you can display one particular video:

So here is a solution. If you where to display a feed where videos are updated regularly, the best place would be to place the code in your sidebar. In single posts use single videos.

Monetization- Problems Only
When I originally wrote about The News Room I have mentioned that there is a way to monetize your blog. I would argue that what The News Room offers can be called “affiliate program”- personally I would prefer to look at it as method of monetizing your website as you would with contextual ads where you are rewarded for either impressions or clicks any given advertising campaign brings. The News Room have chosen to pay bloggers and website owners for impressions. Depending what product you chose to show on your blog, your earnings can start at $1 for every thousand impression.

There is no way however of knowing how many times your videos, photos and news stories where actually accessed. Since discovering The News Room I have featured two video feed and one single video in this post. As of today I have not found the reporting mechanism on The News Room.

Aside of not knowing the statistics of each and every video shown, there is still value in using the service. Will you make money with it? I can’t answer this, I have not made a penny as of today. If you have made money with The News Room please share it with me and my readers.
